A World of Opportunities

Everett Henderson, a missionary in Ukraine since 1996, offers his perspective on today's opportunities in Ukraine. "There are many areas of opportunity, like children's English classes. Nine parents came to the Lord because their kids studied English. We could start 200 schools like that if we had teachers. We could start Bible institutes in ten more areas if we had the funds, infrastructure, and housing. We see needs for churches; we have places to build, but not the funds.

Kiev Theological Seminary needs funds. We need more children's camps as we have seen great results from summer camps. Children and youth are the key to changing this former Soviet state. New freedoms received during the “Orange Revolution” pave the way toward opening the country for the spiritual expansion the Lord desires. Preparation of Ukrainians to go as missionaries to all the surrounding countries is a real potential and is underway. We thank God for His provision for the spreading of the Gospel during this unique harvest time. He has shown Himself able to use for His kingdom work whatever we can lay on the line before Him.

An Opportunity for YOU!

YOU can be involved in ministry in Ukraine, and SEND International would love to assist you. Ministry opportunities can be short term (three months to a year) or longer term. There are even creative ways that you could work in many areas for several months each year for multiple years.

Here are the factors that combine to create an unprecedented opportunity for you to make an eternal impact for God in Ukraine:

  • Across Ukraine, with its population of nearly fifty million, large cities and regions have less than 1% evangelical Christians. Most cities are still unreached.
  • National evangelists are able to reach people with the gospel and begin to establish small groups of believers at a rate much faster than the church's ability to provide pastors or deacons to lead.
  • National church leaders are establishing seminaries, Bible colleges, and regional training institutions, but they need our help for faculty and other resources.
  • National church leaders are thrilled when foreign missionaries come with a genuine desire to serve the churches, work within cultural limits, and demonstrate love for the people. There is a need for hundreds of missionaries, both short-term and career.
  • The Union of Evangelical Christians-Baptists Churches in Ukraine is planting an average of 150 churches each year.

Sister church partnerships

The Ukrainian Baptist Union specifically asked for as many sister church partnerships as we can establish. These partnerships are highly appreciated and have been a very significant part of the growth of the Gospel in Ukraine.

Funding opportunities
  1. Kiev Theological Seminary needs 1.1 million to completely enclose the building before teams can begin to come and finish the interior. They also need $12,000 per month for operations.
  2. The 13 Bible Colleges in Ukraine need $39,000 per year to operate. Each college needs $3,000 per year for 5 modular courses. Several of these colleges are interested in starting businesses to support their institutions. $20,000 is needed for each start up.
  3. The Missionary Training Center of Ukraine exists to assist the church in equipping and sending missionaries to Central Asia and Russia. The annual need is $40,000.
  4. Odessa Theological Seminary needs funding of $10,000 per year for their Bachelor of Pastoral Ministries Program. They also need $50,000 to furnish their dormitory.
  5. Kremenchuk Bible College is currently expanding their facility. They need $300,000 to complete the building.
  6. A former KTS graduate trains teams to lead children's camps each year. One camp can reach 100 children and costs $500. A total of $15,000 is needed annually.
