Here is
a quick snapshot of the team of SEND missionaries who work
together in Siberia. If you are particularly interested in
any of their ministries, or would like to support them in
prayer or financially, please feel free to email them directly
through this site.
John
& Sharon Wicker (Heather Ann, Matthew and Heidi)
We are the Wickers: John & Sharon, Heather Ann (‘90), Matthew (‘92) and Heidi (‘95), currently living in Ulan Ude, Buryatia. Just north of Mongolia, that is!
What do we do? John directs our SEND team of Siberia and Western Russia as Area Director. Currently, our family works as part of a small church plant in our area of the Ulan Ude. As part of that, we do preaching, some family life Bible studies, ladies’ ministry and Sunday School.
Why are we here? Primarily we’re here because we believe God asked us to be here! Also, the local church leadership asked us to come and help Russians reach out to local people groups. In Buryatia, that means the Buryats.
So, how do we reach Buryats? We don’t. God does. He is opening some doors for us through language clubs and showing films and relationships. We continue to seek God to know how He is working.
How long have you been there? We moved to Ulan Ude in late 2001. Previously we had lived 6 years in Central Siberia and a year in Kiev, Ukraine. We came in 1993.
What about those good-looking kids? Heather Ann, Matthew and Heidi are home schooled and sometimes even love it! H.A. and Matthew attend a church youth group, all attend horseback riding lessons and all are working on learning piano. Heidi, by the way, was born in Siberia.
What do you like about living in Siberia? Some days, everything --- like when we get to help with summer camp on Lake Baikal. Some days, well, not everything. We especially don’t love bureaucratic procedures and paper shuffling, but who does?
Thanks for visiting us! Drop by Lake Baikal some day and give us a call!
