Debrief in Okinawa
Are you training to be a teacher (or already are one)? Are you interested in teaching overseas? Come help teach kids in a relaxed summer school session on the warm semi-tropical island of Okinawa (Japan)! Teachers at Okinawa Christian School International, a K-12 accredited school, use education to impact for Christ the lives of many Asian non-Christian students. All instruction is in English. We are seeking someone like you if you are:
*a college student working toward teacher certification
*a certified teacher interested in teaching overseas in the future
Some training or experience in fields like elementary education or ESL (English as Second Language) would be especially helpful, but is not absolutely required.
On the weekends, learn about the culture through sight-seeing, and about Christianity in Okinawa through different church visits. This is a great opportunity for you to experience Okinawa while making a real positive difference in the lives of Asian young people, simply by having fun doing what you want to do: Teach kids!

Upon arrival back in the States, two days
*****Church Planting: Join a team of expatriate and Filipino church planters in experiencing the basic elements of cross-cultural ministry in evangelism, discipleship, and church planting. Depending upon location and length of stay, opportunities might include making contacts, visiting in homes, sharing your testimony, helping in Bible studies, and participating in worship events together with an experienced missionary as you help build the church. Whether you are gifted in relating to youth, in music, in sports, drama or whatever, you will not lack for opportunities to build relationships with Filipinos - relationships that bring people into the kingdom of God.
*****Teaching English: Use TESOL as a bridge to people's hearts. Select between opportunities to teach mainland Chinese flooding into Manila, or teach English to an unreached people group. In either case, you would be working in the context of a larger team that is planting a church. Previous TESOL training is helpful, but training and experience is not a requirement. We can provide crash-course training and materials to get you going. *****Special TESOL opportunity - Teaching future teachers of TESOL: If you have completed a TESOL (TEFL) degree, or you have a fair amount of experience teaching TESOL, come and spend 6 months to a year teaching future TESOL teachers at Asia's Center for TESOL. This ministry would focus on teaching Filipinos and other Asians and expatriates how to be teachers of English so they can move into restricted-access countries in Asia with TESOL as a means of entry. This is teaching future teachers! You would be working under and assisted by a trained instructor. *****Muslim Ministry: This opportunity is designed for short termers to come and have valid ministry exposure working with one of the largest unreached people group in the Philippines. You would be working with Team HOPE in the Philippines making friends with students, hanging out in the student center and establishing relationships with the students. Depending upon your training and abilities, the work might include teaching English, computers, assisting with a sports program, tutoring in math or science, and other assignments the team may have for you. For these minority students, English proficiency is a key felt need in order for them to succeed at college. You would be building friendships that the long-term team members would follow up after you leave.
*****Urban Poor Ministry: Stretch yourself through ministering among the urban poor in the huge Asian city of Manila. Nearly half the city lives at or below the poverty level. Work alongside a Filipino church and receive exposure to issues related to ministry among the poor in a third world impoverished area. You would be involved in friendship evangelism, community projects and perhaps working with kids. This would be an intensive, people-oriented ministry - sharing Jesus' love with them. *****Opportunity for U.S. or Canadian Chinese university students: Do you know Mandarin? Come to Manila and work with a local church teaching English, doing evangelism and ministry among immigrant Chinese flooding into the Philippines from the mainland. *****Opportunity for using puppets, mime, chalk talks, magic tricks or other kid-friendly outreach tools: Do you have experience and a love for working with children? Come assist us with reaching some of the thousands of children in Manila and elsewhere. You would also have the chance to multiply your gift by training Filipinos in using some of the above tools. This is a great opportunity to help train Asians to reach their own people. *****Education Majors - Student Teaching Overseas: Faith Academy in Manila is the largest K-12 school for missionary kids in the world. Canadian and U.S. college students who need to complete student teaching requirements for their bachelor's degree program can spend several weeks or months at Faith Academy, fulfilling student teaching requirements in their area of certification. *****Teaching Bible in Filipino Public Schools: A brand new opportunity is opening up for those who have a heart to reach children with the Gospel. Public schools in Manila are allowing evangelicals to come and teach "values education" in the public schools. Come and work with a team of committed Filipinos and expatriates who have a burden to take advantage of this opportunity. If you have curriculum development experience, that would be a tremendous gift to use here! Or, you can also come and help teach values in a public high school. And you can use English! *****Business Consulting: Business men and women who have a heart for the Lord can come to the Philippines for several weeks to give seminars about running a small business, cost analysis, marketing, managing employees, etc. - whatever your area of interest/expertise. You also would share how your faith impacts your business practices. Then follow up Filipino contacts into their businesses, develop a personal relationship with them and share Christ. The resident ministry team would follow up after you leave. *****Mass Communication and/or Video and Television Majors: We have an excellent short term video editing and production opportunity with Kaagapay Video. Be involved in producing videos that help train pastors, church leaders, and lay people. Use your skills to help disciple a nation. Come join a team of 4 Filipinos and 1 expatriate missionary creating Christian growth and training materials via video to help reach and disciple Filipinos. *****Community Development: Join a team of expatriates and Filipinos who are working with a totally unreached people group in the Philippines. Our team has introduced many various projects: sewing, raising goats, producing quail eggs, values education, literacy and reading programs, and other means to seek to minister to both the physical and spiritual needs of these people. *****Medical and Dental: Are you a nurse or a doctor? Come to the Philippines for 2 or 3 weeks as part of a medical missions team that ministers to the physical and spiritual needs of people who live in a country where half the population is below the poverty line. A great opportunity to serve!
