A School
with a Mission
Morrison Academy's Mission
Statement is our compass, showing the way in all that we seek to be. It focuses
on the needs of the children of missionaries and stresses a Christ-centered
perspective, a quality education, and a nurturing school culture.

A
Christ-Centered Perspective
At Morrison Academy, we
believe that all of our resources must be committed to a single spiritual
objective: Making Jesus Christ seen and known in every facet of our teachers'
and students' lives through the permeation of our school organization and
culture by Christian principles. This goal is accomplished as teachers, students,
parents and administrators work as a team, modeling Biblical truth in relationship
to God, to one another, to the community outside our schools, and to God's
creation.
Such lofty aspirations
require that Morrison's teachers and students be equipped-in and out of the
classroom-with a Christian worldview taught by the mind of Christ Himself.
Such equipping ensures that both staff and students will b free and able to
act Christianly and make wise decisions in differing and shifting cultural
contexts.

A Quality
Education
Morrison Academy clearly
recognizes that, if we are to continue to succeed in providing a quality education
for our students, we must commit without reservation to the following: Securing
and retaining exceptional teachers, upgrading and maintaining our physical
plant, and developing and effectively implementing our curriculum.
Since a school is only
as good as its teachers, securing and retaining the best teachers is our top
priority. We give close attention to locating the right type of staff members
- those who will fit in with who we are as a school, and who will contribute
to the Morrison team. Such teachers are led by God, reflect Christ in their
daily walk, love kids, see themselves as learners, and show evidence of good
teaching skills.
Since effective classroom
instruction is enhanced by a positive physical environment, along with accessible
and appropriate instructional equipment, we spare no effort to make certain
that Morrison's facilities are more than adequate and that our classrooms
are well equipped.
Diligent attention to
curriculum development is another crucial prerequisite to delivering quality
instruction and learning in our classrooms. We have determined that a rigorous
academic program best meets the needs of our students, most of whom are college-bound.
Furthermore, extensive opportunities are available in the co-curricular area.
In fact, Morrison is recognized for both its fine arts program and its wide
range of interscholastic sports programs.

A
Nurturing School Culture
One teacher,
who came on a one-year contract and has remained eighteen years, volunteered, "I
really enjoy the Chinese people and culture and feel that the Lord has led
me to teach missionary children
and this is a good place to do that."
Another reported, "I'll stay another year
or ten
or fifteen.
I love it here! They're really supportive and let you try new things. There
is good group support and cohesiveness."
We believe that these
enthusiastic responses reflect our success in creating a school culture in
which both teachers and students can grow spiritually, academically, emotionally,
physically, and socially. Since we see our teachers as our most important
resource, and our students and their parents as our valued clients, Morrison's
organizational structure is firmly based upon Christian principles which promote
and sustain a nurturing school environment.

Wanted:
Teachers with a Mission
In the words
of one of our middle school students, our teachers, "serve the Lord,
not every now and then, but every single second a watch can possible tick."
Obviously, this student
has benefited from a teacher committed to serving the Lord by serving his/her
students through both instruction and example. In fact, Morrison's teaching
staff is selected according to criteria which emphasize spiritual and professional
maturity, a Christ-like, teachable spirit and integrity of purpose. The result
on our campuses is a professional environment in which servant leaders provide
Biblical integration of subject matter along with a first-rate education.
Although many of our teachers
initially come under contract for a basic two-year term, many of them commit
to long-term service. All of our expatriate staff is affiliated with a mission
organization. Some are both sponsored and supported by their mission, while
others are sponsored by their mission and receive their financial support
from the school.
