Qualifications for Long-term Missionaries
1. Call
SEND is looking for men and women who are clear and confident in their call to missions. That call comes from a personal relationship with Jesus, is guided by Scripture, is affirmed by godly leaders, and is lived out in a concern for the lost.2. Character
Missionaries are normal people. They’re not super-human, super-spiritual or super-strange. They do, however, have certain character qualities that enable them to be successful missionaries. SEND looks for people who love and rely on God, have healthy relationships, exhibit fruits of the spirit and grace under stress, are willing to endure hardships, and lovingly serve the church.3. Competence
SEND looks for candidates who have prepared for their roles as missionaries. Key areas of experience include evangelism, discipleship, and leadership. SEND also considers a candidate’s education, health, reliability, resourcefulness, communication and interpersonal skills.4. Chemistry
Each missions organization has its own vision and personality. Part of being a successful missionary is working with an organization that fits. Is SEND a good fit for you?5. Coachability
SEND believes strongly that teams are a highly effective way to engage the unreached. Not all SEND teams are alike but all SEND missionaries serve on a team. Coachability deals with how a candidate functions as part of a team and under leadershipTo explore these five areas further, check out these resources.
