Will & Suzy
Brown
We first came to Taiwan in March 1994
and spent most of our first term in language learning. Our
internship at the Hwoh Shwei Church blossomed into a partnering
agreement upon our return from our one-year home service (‘98-‘99),
and we are still serving in that position. We are church planters
helping our church-plant become a legally recognized church
in Taiwan. Our vision is that our church, as it continues to
grow, will maintain a heart for missions and a desire to plant
reproducing churches.
Our
children, eight-year-old Katie ("Made in U.S.A."),
six-year-old Julie ("Produced in Taiwan of American parts"),
and four-year-old Andy ("Made in Taiwan") all attend
the local Chinese schools. They enjoy learning Chinese from
their playmates and participating in our ministry. Suzy says, "As
the mom of three small children, my most significant experience
has been watching my kids adjust to Chinese school. Helping
them memorize classical Chinese prose, write Chinese characters,
and adjust to being one of only three blond heads in a school
of 2,000 has helped me to trust in God for my children’s
needs."
By
having our kids in the public school, we feel more involved
in our community. We have gained a deeper insight into Chinese
background and culture than we would otherwise have had. We
give credit to the Lord for our children’s success. We
know that without His daily empowerment it could be very overwhelming.
The difficulties of their attending Chinese school are far
outweighed by the blessings. Our children can participate in
our church, play with the other children who come to our cell
group, and have their own vision to reach the Chinese with
the gospel.
