Howard
and Joyce Botterill
We joined the SEND Kiev team in February 2000. We are "Finishers" (otherwise known as "second career" missionaries) who are not finished making ourselves available to God's service. Before joining SEND, Howard was a software designer with IBM in Rochester, Minnesota, and Joyce taught mathematics at the secondary level. Our heartbeat is to serve the Ukrainian Baptist Union by helping train Ukrainians and young missionaries to reach the people of Ukrainian and the rest of the former Soviet Union.
Joyce is developing and teaching courses in the Christian Education program at Kiev Theological Seminary and teaching English in the full-time pastoral program there. She also is responsible for orientation of new SEND missionaries in Ukraine. Howard is director of the SEND Language Program which is preparing SEND missionaries, as well as missionaries from other evangelical missions, with the language and culture training needed to serve in the former Soviet Union. Currently this includes courses in Russian and Ukrainian. From 30 – 40 students are normally in the program studying under the faculty of 4 to 6 instructors.
In addition, we teach English as a means of evangelism at Hope Church and Howard assists the director of Puppet Ministry in Ukraine in acquiring training teams and supplies from the West.
