Central Asia

Central Asians are nominal Muslims, but Islam permeates their identity, heritage, and culture. Central Asians are also animistic with prayer altars and spirit trees in high places. Long ago the gospel came to Central Asia along the Silk Road. There are many redemptive analogies in the Central Asian culture that point to Christ, but Central Asians don’t recognize them today. The SEND team is seeking to introduce Central Asians to the Redeemer.

Kazakhstan is the only Central Asian country open to the gospel. Kazakhstan has 15.5 million people, 139 nationalities, and only 15,000 known evangelicals among the 9 million Kazaks.
