Story 5 - Identification with Christ
E, one of the women from the Experiencing God studies, did something very difficult last week. I had shared with my group how Father had helped me to extend my residency permit. Last Tuesday, at our meeting she shared that she wanted to go to the government office and change her identification card. On these cards, they list the type of belief you have. She was born in a Muslim home so her identification card stated that she was a “Muslim.” She finally decided that she wanted to change it to “Christian.” You can't imagine the type of difficulty that could be associated with trying to do this. We talked to Father together for her.
A couple of days later she went to the government office. First she had to write a formal request to make this change. She didn't know how to do this so she asked a woman who worked there to help her. The woman said she would be glad to write the request for her. The woman asked what she wanted to do. When E told her, the woman said, “I can’t write that,” and went into a tirade about how wrong that was and she wouldn't help E do this shameful thing.
E finally got it written and then had to wait for a couple of hours. She thought she wasn't going to get the work done because the office was going to close in 30 minutes. She started talking with Father about the situation. Then the official called her name and she got the work done before the office closed without any other problems.
We praise Father for this because this definitely is an unpopular decision here. There could have been a great amount of resistance or persecution related to this. We thank Him for his protection of E as she chose to publicly declare her allegiance to Him.
