History
On one transport ship proceeding cautiously in a convoy from Hollandia* towards Manila, Chaplain Hixson and some Christian soldiers talked earnestly on the deck. Having been blessed by meetings in Hollandia, Hixson and the GIs wanted to see a similar gathering in Manila. Eight men knelt on the deck of that transport to ask God to open doors... Soon their prayer became reality as hundreds of soldiers gathered weekly to praise God together and share their faith at the GI Gospel Hour. SEND International was started as Far Eastern Gospel Crusade (FEGC) shortly after World War II by a group of men and women who returned from military service burdened for the spiritual needs of Asia.
The early years of FEGC were marked by rapid growth and expansion into new areas in the Philippines and Japan. In the 1960’s, FEGC missionaries moved into Taiwan and in 1971, Central Alaskan Mission, with its multi-faceted ministries in Alaska, merged with FEGC.
In 1981, FEGC became SEND International to better represent the geographic scope of the mission. In 1986, SEND missionaries began work in Spain, followed by new ministry in Hong Kong in 1988. In the early 1990s, SEND expanded into Central and Eastern Europe, Russian and Ukraine and Central Asia. Today, there are over 600 SEND missionaries serving in more than twenty countries of Europe, Asia, and North America.
