Story 1 - Follower of Jesus

I used to be a rebellious daughter, addicted to drugs. Because God loved me, He sent people to share Jesus with us. At first I just laughed at them when they led me and my friends in a prayer of acceptance. We agreed not to return to their place because they were just trying to convert us. Later that night, I threw stones at their house. I also threatened my friend who had already accepted Christ and told her that if she continued in her newfound faith, I would let her be killed.

Even though we were doing bad things to the teachers, they continued to show us love. Ate J shared with me about God’s love and I received Christ Jesus as my Lord and Savior on March 30, 2003.

After some time, I attended an Ethnic Worship training with some other believers. I didn’t ask my family for permission to go because they didn’t want me to spend time with Ate J. When I came home from the training my father was furious and asked me where I had been. I didn’t know that they were watching me. I had left my certificate and other papers from the training in my bag and they found it. They took my certificate and sent it to my uncle who is a commander in one of the rebel groups. They kept watching me and even called me “Saint Mary.” I didn’t know that they were planning to kill me. By God’s help, I was not hit by the bullet that was meant to kill me. My cousin pushed me into the water and I floated downstream among the dirt and debris. I was led to the city where Ate J lived and she hid me.

Now, as a follower of Jesus, whatever situations come my way, I hope to continue in my faith in Him. God has changed me and continues to change me. My desire is that He will use me to share the truth about Jesus.
