Community Based Public Health / Southeast Asia

The Muslim population in this Southeast Asian country is the poorest community in a needy country. You can help bring the gift of hope to these families. As a member of a Team HOPE community health outreach team you will learn culturally appropriate ministry techniques while serving on a multi-national team in a tropical Southeast Asia environment. Assist in coordination and planning regular medical outreaches with Christian national and expatriate doctors, conduct medical demographic studies in poor communities, prepare health training materials for seminars and home training. A background in Public Health or nutrition is best, but we train through mentoring internships. A six-month internship with Team HOPE is required before long-term placement on a team.

Muslim Ministry

Reaching Muslims in a variety of settings and a variety of ways.

Build community and share Jesus / Southeast Asia

The six million Muslims within this tropical Southeast Asian community have been extremely closed to the gospel of Jesus Christ for centuries. However, they are open to a messenger who is meeting felt needs. Be the presence of Jesus bringing the Message of Jesus to this needy community in this needy country.

A multi-purpose facility in the center of M town is the site of community development efforts. Children may enroll in Kindergarten, tutoring programs, summer camps, and biblical values classes. The youth participate in values classes, sports tournaments, livelihood projects, and soon, a computer center will be available. Families are engaged in a variety of agriculture based micro enterprise projects.

A background in education or community development is helpful, but Team HOPE provides training and mentorship through a required six-month internship for all candidates before long-term placement. You will learn how to engage this resistant community in culturally relevant ways. You will aid them in gaining the tools that will enable them to provide a sustainable income for their family. You will mentor them with the hope of seeing new Christ followers emerge and Muslim background churches established.

Campus ministry to M students / Southeast Asia

At the invitation of a major university in this tropical Southeast Asian country, our multinational team directs the official tutoring program for new and continuing education students from cultural minority backgrounds. These students are primarily from Muslim backgrounds and they represent the poorest community in this needy country. With few resources to prepare them for the challenges of university, many are compelled to leave well before completing their degree. The role of Team HOPE is to aid them in gaining the skills necessary to enter the work force. The purpose of Team HOPE is to be the physical presence of Christ in the midst of a large Muslim community. The vision of Team HOPE is to reach these Muslims for our loving Lord, Jesus Christ.

The Team HOPE student center houses a library, computer lab, and meeting spaces where team members build a foundation of trust with Muslim students and their families by providing training, resources, scholarships, and mentoring. Team HOPE needs staff members with a variety of skills and the willingness to learn culturally appropriate ways to share their knowledge. Candidates desiring to serve with Team HOPE are required to participate in a six-month training and mentoring internship before long-term acceptance on the team.

TESOL teacher serving M students / Southeast Asia

Team HOPE is involved with Muslim university students through campus tutorials in Oral English (TESOL) along with other subjects. At the invitation of a major university in this tropical Southeast Asian country, our multinational team directs the official tutoring program for new and continuing education students from cultural minority backgrounds. University outreach programs focus on education, relationship-building, sports, a Student Center, and a scholars program in order to be the presence of Jesus and share the message of Jesus.

A background in TESOL is preferred but Team Hope provides a six-month training and mentoring internship that is required before long-term placement on the team. During the internship, you will learn how to build a foundation of trust with Muslim students and their families.

Agricultural Worker, Community Development/Southeast Asia

If you have a passion for Earth stewardship and building relationships with local community members, then come and be a part of our growing organic farm. We are using organic farming methods, terracing techinques and animal husbandry to develop relationships with the local Muslim community.

If you are doing an internship for your university in community development, soil science, agriculture, animal husbandry, organic farming, etc …your time would be spent focusing on some of these particular areas, after email/coordination with the team leader, in order to fulfill your academic requirements.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

Prefer college students with a genuine interest in missions, and openness to working with Muslims. This is not the place for students or professionals looking for a generic missions summer experience, as we encourage deep bonding with the cultural majority group, a sensitive nature to not put the ministry at risk by what is said or done, and mature enough to handle a more independent experience.

Preferred Skills:

Knowledge of the English language, so you are able to communicate with Filipinos.
Warm personality and flexible nature
Somewhat independent and adventurous

Campus Assistant/Teacher/Southeast Asia

Be a part of our tutoring program to help prepare disadvantaged Muslim and Tribal students to pass the entrance exam so they can enroll in a local universtiy as students. Tutor students in basic math (algebra) and English (grammar and/or Oral English). You will also participate in sports, games and social events at our Student Center. This would be a great TESOL internship.

Community Worker/Southeast Asia

Build relationships with members of the local community by teaching childrens' and womens' values classes and assisting in literacy programs. Help with livelihood projects, teach kindergarten, doing crafts and playing games with children. We also need help with our summer values camps during which we teach Old Testament stories to children, youth and adults.

Knowledge of the English language is a must, so you are able to communicate with the students and community members, and so you can assist with teaching as needed.For community work, if you are creative (crafts, literacy, livelihood), is a real benefit.

SEND Teams Philippines - Agriculture and development

We have an Organic Community Development Model Farm that is used as a model to poor Muslim farmers trying to do sustainable farming in difficult environments. Vermiculture and other agricultural methodology is also used. The purpose of this farm is to build relationships with Muslim men in particular that are in the communities we serve, reflect the love of Jesus in our actions and assistance and share Bible stories as part of their experience visiting our farm. Team members would also have the opportunity to host Muslim university agriculture students and community members at the community development center.

Public Health Outreach/Southeast Asia

We provide public health education as well as a variety of services to the local community as a way to build bridges into the local community. We could use individuals trained in public health care and can provide simple medical care to assist us as we provide home visits, health clinics, dental care, counseling and prayer to to members of the local community.

Organic Farming among Muslims / Southeast Asia

Slash and burn methods remove valuable nutrients. Deforestation depletes water tables, eroding rich topsoil. Team HOPE teaches Muslim farmers to be good stewards of God’s creation through hillside terrace farming and organic agricultural techniques. Goat management and year-round Food-in-the-home farming help farmers feed their families.

Join a multi-national team sharing Christ’s love in the heartland of one of the world’s largest unreached people groups. Develop relationships within the Muslim community as you share sustainable farming techniques in a difficult environment. Mentor individuals with the goal of seeing Christ followers emerge within the community and the eventual establishment of Muslim background churches.

Minister to children and youth / Southeast Asia

The Muslim community in this Southeast Asian country has been extremely closed to the gospel of Jesus Christ for centuries. While they are not open to the Message, they are open to a messenger who is meeting felt needs. As one of the neediest communities in a needy nation, few resources are available to aid Muslim children develop skills necessary for global participation. Team HOPE reaches the entire family by mentoring and enriching the lives of these community children. Muslim children are involved with Team HOPE through summer values camps, community kindergartens, after-school tutorials, health and life skills programs, and Bible story-telling classes.

Serve on a multinational team to develop and present children’s ministry and youth outreach programs with the goal of building bridges into the community. Before long-term placement, Team HOPE requires a six-month mentoring internship in a tropical Southeast Asian environment.
