resonance (noun) - a circumstance when a force [sound wave] matches a characteristic of a physical body producing vibration.
Perhaps you remember a time when a train or airplane has passed nearby and, although there is no physical contact, something on a nearby shelf vibrates or “rings”. It’s a wonderful example of God’s marvelous order in creation as the laws of physics bring about (often unexpectedly!) a resonance effect.
This phenomenon can be experienced in a spiritual sense as well. Often unanticipated, it takes place when some truth has been stated, or written, or played, or sung, or painted. As these things wash through our minds and hearts, something “matches” and creates a resonance.
The results are varied: sometimes it brings a renewed certainty or resolution, or a spirit of wonder and worship, or a keen sense of our insignificance. Sometimes, for lack of a better expression, it brings simple joy! If we are perceptive, and if we allow it, these instances can contribute to the vitality of our walk with Jesus.
