Bibilical Foundations For Fundraising

SEND Canada, based on Biblical principles, makes no apology for fund-raising.  Here are three Biblical examples of fund-raising.
Fund-raising for the Tabernacle

In Exodus 24 to 31, God's servant Moses received instructions from the Lord for building the tabernacle.  Certain foundational principles began to emerge for fund-raising at that time.  God has given to His people, life and material possessions, therefore His people are instructed to give back to Him.  Further, God's people have sufficient possessions to accomplish His work.  It is also clear that God's people should give willingly - with all their hearts.
Fund-raising in the Temple

Fund raising for Solomon's temple covers several chapters in Kings and Chronicles.  In 1 Chronicles 29: 1-19, it is clear that leaders are to set the pace of giving.  Leaders are to give substantially and sacrificially.  This passage of scripture indicates that those who give willingly will receive spiritual blessing and prosperity.
Fund-raising for the poor

In the New Testament there are many examples of fund-raising for the poor.  In Romans 15:24 - 33, Paul demonstrates his own participation in taking a collection for the poor in Jerusalem.  In 1 Corinthians 16:1 - 4, we discover that the Corinthian believers also contributed to the poor in Jerusalem.  In 2 Corinthians 8 and 9 many reasons are given for stating the importance of giving - to which we now turn.

7. 2 Cor. 8:5   Consecration to God ought to precede our contributions.
8. 2 Cor. 8:7   Giving is a Christian grace in which we are to increase.
9. 2 Cor. 8:8   The model and measure of our giving is Christ's giving.
10. 2 Cor. 8:10-12   One function of the minister is to help Christians fulfill their obligation to give.
11. 2 Cor. 8:13-14   Giving is based on the principle of Christian fellowship and sharing.
12. 2 Cor. 8:21   Giving thrives in an atmosphere of honest giving.
13. 2 Cor. 9:1-4   Our giving will motivate others to give.
14. 2 Cor. 9:5   Giving must be done willingly and not coerced.
15. 2 Cor. 9:6   We are to give generously and not sparingly.
16. 2 Cor. 9:7   Giving generouosly calls for careful planning.
17. 2 Cor. 9:8-14   Generous giving brings rich rewards.
