Aiming at Mentoring the Next Generation

Several youth line up side-by-side facing their targets. One hand clutches a bow, fingers on the other hand grasp the string. Slowly they raise the bow and pull back firmly, keeping the arrow in place. They aim. They release. And archery launches them into the love of a new sport and learning important spiritual truths.

Missionaries and national workers in Croatia have realized that one key to reaching the next generation for Christ is to use sports as a tool to teach them biblical truth. Building an archery sports facility and purchasing additional equipment will enable them to expand their ministry.

Through archery, counselors can teach several important lessons; listening to directions, the importance of practice, the definition of sin, and how to own and correct their mistakes. Archery can help campers understand and visualize spiritual truths in new ways.

Expanded archery facilities will benefit the camp in a variety of ways. It will provide additional space for small group meetings, increased safety to archers and onlookers, a place to hang out and play games in bad weather, as well as providing much needed storage. And local youth groups and nearby communities will benefit as the camp can participate in local festivals, open up the range to local kids and provide weekend retreats or tournaments.
