Church
Ministries
A light in a
dark place. SEND missionaries have been just that for over 60 years
across the Far North, taking the light of the gospel to those who
have never heard. Our vision is to see lives transformed, families
changed, and whole communities touched by the light of our hope
in Jesus Christ.
Could you have
a part in this bold venture? We are asking God for 105 new missionaries
in the next 5 years to join our team and make known the gospel of
Jesus Christ in communities of largely indigenous peoples in Alaska,
the Yukon Territory, and northern British Columbia.
We have exciting
opportunities for those with the traditional missionary skills of
evangelism, discipleship, and teaching the Word, as well as bi-vocational
missionaries including school teachers, village health aides (providers
of primary health care), pilots, and others. Our team-based ministry
strategy blends the various skills of each member for maximum impact
on an entire region.
Vance Havner
said, "The problem today is that the spiritual situation is
desperate but many of God's people are not." What will it take
to bring light to the spiritually desperate people of the North?
People just like you.

Radio--The
Northern Light Network
Visit us at www.krsa.net! Vince
Joy, founder of the Central Alaskan Mission (later SEND International
of Alaska), clearly understood the need to reach people who lived
in the bush areas of Alaska--some so remote that they couldnt
even be reached by airplane. Vince saw radio as the solution to
this problem.
His original
idea has developed into the Northern Light Network, a subsidiary
of SEND International of Alaska. The NLN exists to provide public
service, encourage listeners with uplifting programming, reach the
lost with evangelistic programming, and build up believers with
sound Biblical teaching. Today the NLN consists of two AM broadcast
stations and three FM translators. Click
here to link to the NLN home page.
- In Alaskas
Heartland--KCAM, Glennallen
Early in the
morning of March 27, 1964--Good Friday--the engineers gave the final
check and announced that KCAM was ready to begin broadcasting. All
they were waiting on now, before actually signing on the air, was
for the FCC to finish tying up all the red tape.
At approximately
5:30 PM Alaska time, the earth began to shake. It shook for three
minutes, while the ground rolled like waves of the sea. Aftershocks
followed all through the night. It was The Big One, the quake that
would come to be known as the Good Friday Earthquake.
When the earth
steadied, KCAM went on the air with emergency power under special
authority to aid rescue and restoration efforts during the crisis.
Regular authority for full-time broadcasting was granted on April
16, 1964.
KCAM Radio covers
Southcentral Alaskas Copper River Valley--an area about the
size of Ohio. The station is located in the town of Glennallen,
at the foot of the majestic Wrangell Mountains. KCAMs programming
includes national and local news, weather, community news, family,
teen and childrens programs, and a wide variety of music.

- In Alaskas
Panhandle--KRSA, Petersburg
People
in Southeast Alaskas panhandle also wanted a Christian
radio station. SEND International of Alaska conducted survey trips
to the communities of Sitka, Wrangell, Petersburg, Juneau, and Ketchikan,
and eventually the mission filed for licensing for a radio station
in Petersburg, Alaskas Little Norway.
KRSA, on the
air since September 25, 1982, serves Petersburgs Mitkof Island,
the communities and waterways around Petersburg, and--by translator--the
more distant communities of Haines, Sitka and Wrangell. Click

What
Is a Translator?
No,
not someone who translates from English into Alaskan! In radio,
a translator is basically an unmanned repeater station that
receives a radio signal in one format from the original station
and re-broadcasts, or translates, that signal in another format
to its local area. Once the translator equipment was in place,
the people of Haines, Sitka, and Wrangell could hear programming
from KRSA, even though Petersburg was, in some cases, hundreds
of miles away.

Most of the
medical staff at CRMC serve as missionaries. They serve either with
an existing mission organization and are on loan to CRMC, or come
as CRMC missionaries who have raised support from churches, family,
and friends. They come for varying lengths of time, from two weeks
to several years, or even longer. Short-term missionaries and volunteers
are vital to the organization.

Education--Alaska
Bible College
Alaska
Bible College, located in Glennallen at the crossroads of the Glenn
and the Richardson Highways, is the only accredited resident Bible
college in Alaska. Since 1966, ABC has continued to grow and expand
its vision for ministry-focused Biblical education. More than 60 students
currently attend the college, which is fully accredited by the Accrediting
Association of the Association for Biblical Higher Education and offers a B.A. degree, an A.A.
degree, and a Bible Certificate.
ABC strives
to develop men and women for Christian service. Based on clear,
Bible-centered doctrine, ABC holds to the basic beliefs of the Christian
faith. Basic spiritual, Biblical, vocational and other objectives
are taught, lived and instilled through the program into the lives
of those studying at the college.
When it began
in 1966, ABC was a division of SEND International of Alaska. The
college is currently in the process of becoming independent from
SEND. At present, however, most ABC personnel remain on missionary
support as SEND missionaries or self-supporting volunteers.
